Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

At Holland Civil Solutions, we get asked a lot about our asphalt paving, spray seal, road surfacing, plant hire, earthworks and line marking services. Below are some common questions and answers to help you understand how we work and what we deliver across Townsville and North Queensland.
What is the difference between asphalt paving and spray seal?
Asphalt paving (hot mix bitumen) provides a smoother, stronger surface ideal for high-traffic areas like roads and carparks. Spray seal (chip seal) is more cost-effective and often used on rural roads or lower-traffic areas to provide a waterproof, durable surface.
How long does asphalt paving last?
With proper installation and maintenance, asphalt pavement can last 15–20 years or more. We also provide asphalt maintenance services to extend the life of existing surfaces.
Do you provide road surfacing outside of Townsville?
Yes, we service Townsville and a 600 km radius across North Queensland, including Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and inland regional centres.
What are the benefits of spray seal?
Spray seal is cost-effective, quick to apply, dust-reducing, and provides a waterproof layer that protects and extends the life of gravel or older bitumen roads.
Is spray seal suitable for carparks and driveways?

Yes. Spray seal is a cost-effective option for both carparks and residential driveways, as well as access roads. It provides a durable, budget-friendly surface that reduces dust and extends the life of paved areas.

What is wet hire?
Wet hire means you hire the machine plus our skilled operator. This ensures the job is done correctly and safely, without the client needing to source their own crew.
What equipment do you have available for wet hire?
Our modern fleet includes pavers, rollers, skid steers with multiple attachments (profiler, broom, slasher, auger, forks), and excavators.
Can you provide operators for my own equipment?
Yes, we offer skilled operators for your machinery, ensuring projects continue without delays.
What earthworks services do you provide?
We handle site preparation, excavation, trenching, final trimming and grading, ensuring correct levels, drainage and a stable foundation for asphalt or concrete works.
Do you work on residential sites?

Yes. While much of our work is in the commercial, civil and government sectors, we also deliver quality solutions for residential projects such as driveways, access roads and smaller-scale surfacing works. Every job receives the same level of professionalism and attention to detail.

Do you provide compliant line marking?
Yes, we offer line marking services for carparks, commercial properties and safety zones, ensuring compliance with Australian standards.
What kind of concrete work do you do?
We provide minor concrete works such as kerbs, footpaths and slabs to support civil projects.
Do you provide ongoing lawn maintenance?
Yes, we offer commercial lawn maintenance with skid steer slashers and large-scale mowers to keep civil and commercial sites tidy.
Do you only handle large commercial projects, or can you surface residential driveways?

We cater to projects of all sizes. Whether you need a large commercial carpark surfaced, a new industrial road constructed, or just a quality asphalt or spray seal driveway for your home, we have the expertise and equipment to complete the job.

Can you repair existing asphalt surfaces?

Yes, we offer comprehensive asphalt repair services for damaged roads, carparks, and driveways to patch potholes, seal cracks, and extend the lifespan of your existing surface.

How long will my surfacing project take?

Project duration varies significantly based on size, site preparation requirements, and weather conditions. A standard residential driveway may take 1-2 days, while a large commercial carpark or road construction project may take several weeks. We provide a detailed project timeline with every quote.
